Our Purpose

The Pella Garden Club exists to promote a love of plants abd living things.  We provide education in areas of flower arranging, horticulture and landscape design.  Our club perpetuates the Tulip Time Flower Show and our fundraising efforts support civic beautification.

Summer Garden Party

Following the final 50th Christmas Tour of Homes and Tea, December 2012, Pella Garden Club held a Summer Garden Party.  This event replaces the Home Tour as one of our major fundraisers. Funds raised support scholarships and civic beautification.

Garden Club Trips

The first Garden Club trip was an overnight to Dixon, Illinois to the Harold Cook workshop in October, 1971.  Since 2010 the Club has traveled to the following locations:

BY-LAWS FOR THE PELLA GARDEN CLUB

Article I – Name  This club shall be known as the Pella Garden Club.

Article II – Objects

To contribute to the success of Tulip Time by perpetuating and developing the Tulip Time Flower Show.

To affiliate with the State Federation of Garden Clubs and the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc.  

Article III – Membership

Section 1.  Active membership shall be an unlimited number.

Section 2.  Membership shall be open to all interested people.

Section 3.  New members shall receive a Pella Garden Club yearbook and a Handbook for the Flower Show upon joining.

Article IV – Dues

Section 1.  Dues shall be established by the Executive Board and shall be payable in September, the first month of the Garden Club’s regular year.  

Section 2.  New members taken in during the year shall pay a fee to include dues and handbook.  Fee shall be established by the Executive Board.

Section 3.  Honorary membership shall be allowed.

Article V – Officers and Executive Board Duties

Section 1.  The officers shall be President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  They shall be elected at the annual meeting and serve for two years.  

Section 2. The President shall preside at all meetings of the club and shall appoint committee chairmen when necessary.  

Section 3.  The Vice President shall conduct the business of the club during the absence of the President.  If the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice President shall become President. The Vice President shall oversee club communications.  Following a 2-year term as Vice President, the Vice President shall then assume the Presidency of the Pella Garden Club for a 2-year term.  

Section 4.  The Program Chairman shall serve as President if the offices of President and Vice President become vacant.  

Section 5.  The Secretary shall keep records of the meetings of the club and shall be custodian of all records and papers pertaining to her office.  She shall conduct all correspondence, keep all letters on file, and send notices of special meetings.  

Section 6.  The Treasurer shall keep an account of all money received and dispensed.

Section 7.  The Executive Board shall consist of all Garden Club officers and the Chairman of the following committees:  Program, Membership, Publicity, Flower Show and Summer Garden Party. This Board transacts the general business of the club, considers all questions of policy and presents recommendations to the club for action.  The President may request other chairmen and/or committees to attend called Executive Board meeting when deemed necessary.  

Section 8.  The Executive Board of the Pella Garden Club has the authority to appoint a member of the Pella Garden Club to fill an office that has been vacated to finish out that term until the next scheduled election.  

Section 9.  Standing Committees shall be appointed by the President and Vice President.  

Article VI – Meetings

Section 1.  For at least nine months of the year, there shall be one regular meeting a month usually the first Wednesday combining morning and evening meetings.  The Pella Garden Club year is September to July.  

Section 2.  The Annual Meeting shall be held in July for the purpose of annual reports and election of officers.  The President shall conduct the July meeting and complete the current state president’s report. Newly elected officers shall take office in September.  All Materials and information pertinent to the office shall be transferred before the September meeting. 

Article VII – Election of Officers

Section 1.  The Nomination Committee shall be named two months before the Annual Meeting.  It shall consist of five members: three chosen by the President and Vice President, one elected from the Executive Board and one elected by the membership.  

Section 2.  The Nomination Committee shall prepare a list of candidate(s), one or more for each office.  Nominations will also be accepted from the floor, providing such nominees have given their previous consent.  The voting shall be by ballot at the Annual Meeting in July.  

Article VIII – Quorum

Section 1. A quorum of a meeting of the club shall be one-fourth of the membership.

Article IX – Parliamentary Authority

Section 1.  “Roberts Rules of Order, Revised” shall be the authority and govern this club in the business procedure on all points not covered by the by-laws.  


Article X – Amendments

Section 1.  The by-laws may be amended at any regular meeting of the club by two-thirds of the votes cast by those present provided that the proposed amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous meeting.  They may be amended without notice at the Annual Meeting by unanimous vote.  

Article XI – Resignations

Section 1.  Resignations from Garden Club must be sent in writing to the secretary.





PELLA GARDEN CLUB STANDING RULES

  •  EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL
  • The Pella Garden Club will pay registration fees upon completion of educational workshops, classes and meetings sponsored by the Federated Garden Club Organization.  This amount will not exceed $50.00 per member per event.  

  •  PELLA GARDEN CLUB TRAVEL
  • The Pella Garden Club will pay expenses for our club’s events.  This will be for drivers that take 3 or more members. The Board will decide the amount for each individual trip.  

  • GIFTS AND MEMORIALS GUIDELINES (October 1, 2013)
  • Gifts and memorials will be given to Garden Club members only.  A member in the hospital will be sent a plant or floral arrangement not to exceed $35.00.  A memorial check or gift certificate in the amount of $50.00 will be given to a member for a death in her immediate family: spouse, grandparent, parent, child, grandchild, sibling (this does not include in-laws).  Upon a member’s death, flowers (not to exceed $50.00) will be sent to the funeral or memorial service. Cards may be sent to a member who has a family member with serious health issues. Members may send personal cards at any time.

  • The Pella Garden Club’s Program Committee has $1,000 a year to pay speakers as needed.  

  • TULIP BULBS (June 2018)
  • The Pella Garden Club will pay to have the picking bed planted.
